who we are . . . who we are not . . . who we want to be
We are followers of Christ:
in today's culture, it's not always enough to just call yourself a Christian. When the disciples were first called Christians, it was because they were "like Christ." When He said come follow me, that's what they did. It was more than believing, they joined Him on a journey. We believe God has called us to this journey as well... to the lifelong process of being conformed to His image as we follow Him to the finish.
We are regular guys:
for some reason, in a lot of people's eyes, the stage and spotlight can make others appear to be more than they really are. Though we spend a lot of time "on stage" on Sundays and gathering, we are no different than any other follower of Christ, experiencing the same joys and struggles as everyone else. Thankfully, we are covered moment by moment by the grace of God. There's only one star in the Kingdom of God - and it's not any of us. His name is Jesus, "the Bright Morning Star."
We want to lift up Jesus:
see above!
We want to be an influence in our world: the way we see it you can either influence or be influenced.
We are lovers of life:
in light of eternity, we are given a small amount of time on this globe. Jesus said that He has come to give us life to the full. We want to live that way, to experience the fullness of that promise. In the end, we want to know that we have run the race to the finish, that we have fought the good fight, that we have kept the faith.
We want to be rebels:
a rebel is usually defined as counter-culture. Well, welcome to Jesus. Can you think of anyone more "against the flow?" (love your enemy, the greatest is the one who serves, lose your life to find it, store your treasure in heaven,. Rebels leave a mark on the world. The mark we want to leave is the mark of the cross of Christ.
We are not finished:
not even close. Everyday, we see the work of God in our lives (especially in music). We are continually working out this gift that God has given us. We pray for more melodies, more rhythms, more words of worship, more songs that the world will sing.
